It has begun ...

According to some sources there are 50,000 orange supporters and 30,000 Yanukovich supporters on the Maidan.

Apparently Tymoshenko, Lutsenko and Kyrylenko are jointly leading the orange demonstration.

Webcam shots here. Great still shot here.

Well I never ran into the Film Maker on Maidan, though I did run into a number of people that I met back in 2004.

At one point at about 17:30 I received a text message from my Kum. It read "I'm on Maidan. Where are you?" I texted him back and then he called me. No luck in hearing him as Foma of Mandry's voice over the PA was feeding back through my phone. I texted him back . "Meet you in front of the entrance to the Post Office in 7 minutes!" It's were we met back on on the morning of November 23, 2004.

After meeting up we met two old friends by chance. One of whom I had traveled through out Canada with in 1991, and a member of Nasha Ukraina. Yuri said, he hadn't eaten all day so the four of us headed to the Drum. There we met Stefko Bandera who was jotting notes of what the different leaders said.

A couple of minutes later a friend of ours Ihor came in. He laughed and said, "What was the point in heading to Maidan, everyone knows that (r)evolutions start here!" In a way he was right. But this time we will have to wait and see what kind of decision President Yuschenko makes today regarding the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada.

Well, I guess we're all waiting with baited breath for that decision.

It's quite ironic to see Yanukhovych has created a variation on the "Razom nas bahato" theme with his "unity" platform.

I imagine enough Ukrainians recognize empty rhetoric for what it is, though. Which may explain the splintered political landscape.

It's almost like a mirror image of ours here in Canada. Just different colours and different languages.

However, democracy is still a new frontier in Ukraine, so in terms of its political development I guess it can probably be considered "the wild east."

Watch your back, my friend. As the saying goes, "walk lightly and carry a big stick!"
