Poem about erotic folksongs

By all accounts, the presentation my friend Orysia gave last month on the eroticism underlying Ukrainian folksongs at the Honchar museum in Kyiv was a big hit!

One of the attendees even wrote a poem about it and posted it on the internet (here).

I always think of Orysia as this great walking, talking Ukrainian encyclopedia. I swear she knows everything about everything Ukrainian, especially folklore! She also has this great knack for cutting through clutter and quickly getting to the most interesting facets of whatever she is talking about. So if you ever get a chance to hear her speak, jump at it!

She travels to Ukraine every summer so if you're there at the same time, or are lucky enough to live there, I suspect there may be future opportunities like this one to hear her. If you are lucky enough to live in Winnipeg, keep a close eye on the University of Manitoba, where she works and sometimes gives presentations.

In the meantime, here's an article she wrote on head coverings that illustrates her incredible knowlege and skill of presentation. And don't forget to check out the poem!

Sorry, I know that this comment is off topic, but I didn't know where to put it. Did you notice the page on wikipedia I created for you? I hope everything is factual and that I didn't miss anything important. Hopefully it will bring you even more listeners.

Well said about Orysia, Pawlina. I met her a couple of times in Kyiv, but somehow missed her talk in Kyiv. For some reason I thought that it was being held at 17:00 and not 15:00 but it was it is because I confused it with a Ukrainian Choir from Poland that was to be performing that same day. As a result I missed both Orysia this time she was in Kyiv, and I choir I had never heard before.

However, a few days before I did meet up with Molly Anne Warring. All I can say is that she is a wonderful human being, and I hope I will be able to help making her very well known through her wonderful books here in Ukraine.

Oh, bad luck to miss Orysia's talk when she was in your town! You'll just have to arrange to be here in Vancouver whenever I can manage to bring her out! ;-)

You are bang on regarding Molly, she is absolutely, amazingly awesome. I knew you would take to each other ... you have much in common!
